Vienna to Salzburg, at a price agreed before you book

The drive from Vienna to Salzburg takes about two and a half to three hours. What you book on this page is that drive: a private car with your own chauffeur, from the address you enter in Vienna to the address you enter in Salzburg, at a fixed price agreed before you book. You choose the departure time, and any stops you would like on the way go into the route before you book, so the price you see already covers them. The vehicle does not stay with you for the day — if that is what you need, book a chauffeur by the hour instead.

GLOBALANE is a chauffeur service — a rental car with driver, not a taxi dispatch service. There is no taximeter and no shared ride. You see the fixed price for the journey you have entered before you book, and that is the price you pay for that journey.

One thing to be clear about from the start: our fixed prices are for one-way journeys, outbound from central Vienna. The drive back from Salzburg is a second journey and is quoted separately — simply tell us when you book. If you would rather have the vehicle and the chauffeur at your disposal for the whole day, book by the hour instead.

Fixed prices from Vienna to Salzburg

Prices are per vehicle, not per person, and include VAT, tolls and the Austrian vignette. All fixed prices are for one-way journeys (outbound only) departing from central Vienna; a different pick-up or drop-off address, waiting time, a return trip and additional stops are quoted individually. Your own figure therefore depends on the addresses and the stops you enter, so the calculator above shows the fixed price for your itinerary before you book. Stops or route changes requested later, after departure, are charged separately, as are parking, entry and admission fees caused by stops you request. Who this is for

The trip suits three kinds of traveller in particular: couples and families who want to see the city without changing trains twice, business travellers with a meeting in Salzburg who book the outbound drive and the way back as two separate journeys, and groups who would rather travel together in one vehicle than buy separate tickets — up to eight passengers in the V-Class, up to 18 in the Sprinter. If you are travelling with a lot of luggage, with small children, or with someone who finds long walks difficult, a door-to-door private car removes most of the friction from the day.

The vehicle class is chosen according to the number of passengers and the luggage you are bringing, so please state your luggage when you book — that way the right vehicle is assigned to your journey.

Pick-up, stops and the route

We collect you at the address you enter — your flat, your hotel in Vienna, or Vienna Airport if you are combining the trip with a flight. For an airport pick-up your chauffeur waits in the arrivals area with a tablet showing your name, helps you with your luggage and accompanies you to the vehicle. In Salzburg they set you down at the address you have entered. If you would like to be collected again later in the day, say so when you book: the drive back to Vienna is quoted as a second journey, and a whole day with the vehicle at your disposal is booked by the hour.

The calculator supports intermediate stops, so the classic detours through the Salzkammergut can be part of the route you book: St. Gilgen, Wolfgangsee and Mondsee all lie along or just off the way to Salzburg. Enter them with the rest of your itinerary and you will see the resulting fixed price before you book. Stops added later, after departure, can be accommodated where possible, but they are charged separately — so it is worth entering everything you already know in advance.

What is included — and what is not

If you want the vehicle and the chauffeur to stay with you all day — waiting while you walk through the old town, then taking you on to the next address — that is an hourly booking rather than a transfer. The hourly rate is €59 in Economy, €69 in the E-Class, €99 in the V-Class and €149 in the S-Class; the details are on our chauffeur by the hour page.

One more point matters, so we would rather be plain about it: your chauffeur drives. Under Austrian trade law they are not a licensed tour guide, so they will not lead you around the sights or give a commentary. What they will do is drive you there and set you down at the address you have entered. If you want a guided tour, book a licensed guide in Salzburg separately — we are happy to time the day around it.

Booking, payment and cancellation

Enter your route in the calculator above, choose a vehicle, and you will see the fixed price before you book. You pay online when you book – by card, Apple Pay, EPS, Klarna or another method offered at checkout; payments are processed by Mollie B.V. Payment in the vehicle or to the chauffeur is not possible, and payment on account is available to approved business customers only. You receive a booking confirmation.

Plans change, so the rules are set out in three steps: cancellation is possible up to 7 days before departure for a fee of 10 % of the agreed fixed price, with 90 % refunded. Less than 7 days before departure, and if nobody appears at the pick-up point, the full agreed fixed price applies. The full terms are set out in our terms and conditions.
